I'm trying to learn the basics to creating a website. I have registered for a free webhost (geocities) and I have the Adobe Creative Suite, thus having Go Live. If someone could explain the initial steps to start editing in Go Live, or maybe a referrence, i'd appreciate it.

The help fie is a reference and isn't structured (or designed) to teach you GoLive. You need to have some form of training material to help get you started.

Don't know how good they are, but VTC has online training videos (also cd's).
http://www.vtc.com/ Adobe sells a hands-on training workbook (Classroom in a Book) that would be of aid. There are several books on the market that would help. You need to make sure that it starts at a beginner's level and pay attention to the reviews.

Once you get a basic understanding of the environment, download sites from the web and see how others build their site.

Good luck on your adventure!

I agree with immbd. I was just saying, that use the help whenever you have a small question to see how somthing works (frames, etc..). Also you may want to check out Sitesled (http://www.sitesled.com) I'm not sure about geocities, but with sitesled you can use FTP, so you can upload your site directly through GoLive.

Need finetuning?

If you ever want to learn HTML yourself even if just to fine tune your site then I strongly recommend http://www.w3schools.com

I create all my sites by hand and that's where I started learning. I'm now using the same site to learn PHP - they have great tutorials and examples which can be edited so you can see how changes effect the output.

One last site I recommend is http://www.htmlhelp.com

Sincere apologies if I've broken any rules posting links here, this is my first post and hopefully not the last.

I only have a PC myself but there are Macs in the family and this looks like a great source of information and hopefully I'll be able to contribute as much as I learn.

Yeah, Learn how HTML works, so then when something is not working properly, you can figure it out by using the code.

Found that book I mentioned earlier-

10 Minute Guide to HTML by Tim Evans ISBN 0789705419

Good book for beginners just starting. Teaches basic html.
All you need is a computer, any text editor, any browser.
