• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have a Macbook Pro with a 2.33 Ghz processor and 4 GB of RAM. It's a great, fast computer. It's running Leopard 10.5.5 and I have have Imovie and the entire Adobe Creative Suite installed and running fine. Final Cut Express installed but won't open for some reason. It may be the version of leopard I have because it's running on my other Mac which has a pervious version of leopard.

Any thoughts please? I'm pretty desperate.

I'm living in the Dominican Republic so I can't take it to a Mac Store...

If your computers are networked, then make sure the other computer is not running FCE. The license checks for that and does now allow you to run on two systems at once.

If that isn't the problem, then check the system logs by using the Console.app in the utilities folder for errors specific to the FCE startup.

I don't have a PCI card. Do I need one to run FCE? I'm not on a server. There's no reason it should not work.

Uh? PCI?

I said networked. As in, if you computers are connected via a wired or wireless network, FCP can understand that and won't let you run the software twice at the same time on both machines. It should tell you that when you try to start the second copy.

Also, check the Console utility for errors.

My computer is not networked. I'm not even connected to the internet when I'm trying to run it.

I have version 4.0 and I just did the apple update to 4.0.1.

This is the error message that comes up...

A google search found this. The problem was for FCP 6, but identical to your problem. Perhaps a re-install will fix this issue.

I just came across this thread over at macrumors. It is regarding having to start at lease once with the administrator account if you have multiple accounts. Odd, but it worked for the person reporting it.
