• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I recommend using mplayer instead of vlc, its a personal choice really. theyre definitely not the same, and mplayers features and flawless playback cant be overlooked.

Hello: I followed a previous post where you suggested putting an .avi file through divx doctor then through ffmpegx to get a video ts file for copying to a dvd disk. The divx doctor produced a .mov file which I then attempted to run through ffmpegx. When I hit encode, the file runs through in about three seconds and the bell dings that its finished. But there's no Video TS file to be found. This doesnt seem correct. any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your quick reply and welcome. Yes it plays fine in both VLC and Quicktime. However, I don't have Quicktime Pro. Will that allow converting encoded movies or am I venturing into illegal territory here? thanks

thanks. I'll download it and try it. thanks for the info.
BOY was that slow converting. Anyway, I now have a tmp.vided.M1V and tmpaudio.MP2 files. I loaded them into Toast 6 Titanium under the video tab. The files are apparently too big (5.6 GB) to put on a 4.3 GB disc. Is there a way to compress before burning? Thanks.
