Hi Y'all

I recently acquired an old macbook from a business that no longer needed it.

I want to make it my home computer - what is the best way to clear all the extraneous data and rubbish, but keep all (or at least the important) applications?

Is it possible to rename the main administrator account?

& finally - it has copies of system folders & applications from something called the "classic environment" - what is the best way to clear all this no longer functional stuff?

Is there something I can do after clearing it all to tidy it up and make it a bit more efficient?

Specs:

Macbook 2.1
Inter Core 2 Duo
2ghz Processor
2gb Memory
667mhz Bus?

Capacity: 74.21gb
Used: 60.58gb

Mac OS X Version 10.5.2

For What it's worth, I did an Xbench test for result of 98.07

Did you receive the installation disks along with the machine? If you did, it would be best to erase the hard drive and re-install the operating system along with the included applications.

You'll then be able to assign yourself as admin and start fresh with a new install of the OS. Be sure to download all the latest updates.

Regards.

if you did not receive the disks with it you can go and purchase a Leopard disk and re-install as well but either way you need to completely flush it and start fresh.

If you have the admin password but no disks you could always create a new user account, log into it, then delete the old admin account from there. Make sure to give the new account Administrator privileges. This can all be done in System Preferences>Accounts.

What is the "classic environment?" I tried to install my HP scanner software and it couldn't--a notice came up about not having the classic environment, whatever that means.
