I downloaded an audiobook from audible.com into iTunes. I plan on burning it to a CD so my students can listen to it on a portable CD player and headphones as they read along with the book. They won't be listening to it in one sitting so they'll need to stop at the end of a chapter then resume several days later. However, I've noticed the audiobook is one large track unlike an audio CD bought from a store. Does anyone know if I can make/designate tracks in iTunes before I burn the audiobook to CDs?

The last time I checked, you could not.
No one had been working on cracking the Audible DRM.

I have not burned any of my audible books to CD. But, from the reading I've done, you will still only get approx. 70 minutes of your book per CD. Some sites recommend only 60 minutes. Has to do with the conversion to CD audio format. Not sure how long yours is, the book I'm currently listening to is in 3 parts and approx 22 hours long. This would equate to 19-22 CD's.

edit: And from Audible
The standard blank compact disc or CD-R can hold up to 74 or 80 minutes of audio burned in the .CDA format. Only CD's burned in the .CDA format are playable in standard CD Players found in cars and homes today. Audible titles and other programs that are longer than 74 minutes will require multiple CDs to burn the entire length of the title. Even though the downloaded file size varies depending on the format that they are downloaded in, the number of CD(s) required will depend only on the length of the book, not the file size. As an example, if you are burning a title that is about 10 hours long, it will require approximately 9 to 10 CDs to burn all of the Audible content.

And while it may be a noble cause, trying to get your students interested in reading using another tool, it doesn't send your students the right message unless you obtain permission for creating that many copies and handing them out.

Thanks for the reply. FYI there will be only six students listening to this particular audio book at a six person listening station on one CD.

No problem. I spent a lot of time looking for something along those lines. The longer books, the chapter markers audible puts on them, typically has no bearing to the beginning of chapters. My one big gripe with them. But, I'm kinda hooked being able to listen to my books while driving now.
