Very strange. Even more intriguing is Apple's future absence after this year's show.

I think it's been pretty obvious for awhile now that Steve is looking to transition some of the product announcements to others, perhaps this is the beginning of the end of his stint as CEO.

One article said they prefer to announce changes and products at their
choosing rather than at Macworld and why not they have Apple.com at
their disposal.

This really upsets me. I love seeing Steve Jobs talk. He's so into what he's doing. Although I am not going to Macworld, I love to see his keynotes. I think I'm going to cry.:'(

It was pretty evident during the October 14 special event that Jobs was starting the process of handing off the reins of the company, and this would seem to be the next step in that plan.

Somebody is going to have to replace Jobs one day, makes sense to ease the transition from such an iconic person to a "mere mortal" ;P

Well this is a big upset, this is (was??, sorta don't want to go anymore!!) going to be my first MacWorld... Not only that but now AAPL is going to take a bigger hit.. And now there will be even more speculation about Jobs's health, which will prompt more of those stupid rumors about his health sending the stock price down even more!

That is true, but this is one of those few companies where the CEOs health and well being has such a big role in the company... And frankly I don't like the next person in line for the throne...

Way... way too many specs to list.
It's really not all that unusual to halt spending $$$ on tradeshows in this industry.

I'd agree that Apple is definitely wanting to move the spotlight from Steve Jobs and get others from Apple involved in communicating with the public at their events. Steve Jobs is very likable and if there is a chink in Apple's armor it would be that people see Steve Jobs as Apple.

The reality however is that Apple is made up of numerous talented people who are doing lots of work in the background and Steve Jobs gets to tell the world about it.

Whilst I can't say I want to see Steve Jobs go, it's an inevitable fact that Mac lovers are going to have to deal with soon.

Actually, Apple has been thinking of getting out of Macworld for some time now. So this isn't just an economic thing, it just happens to be a convenient time.

Its really sad to see Steve can't do the keynote at Macworld. Also that this is Apples last Macworld presentation.

Although, Macworld will be able to have a focus on the 3rd party developers instead.

I heard Steve Jobs is really sick, he has Pancreatic Cancer. Maybe that's why?
