Wireless Problem In Africa (PLEASE HELP!!!)

I am currently in West Africa on my internship for college. The apartment that I am staying in has wireless internet that is running from a wireless card in the back of a desktop pc. I have a macbook running the newst leopard and aiport updates on it, however cannot connect to the internet. It is showing up that the network is a device, and not a network...? and will not allow me to access the internet...? This is odd to me and have no idea what to do, but NEED my computer badly!!! Please Help

Does anybody know what would be causing this to happen..?
