So I was working with my band using Guitar Pro to set up click tracks for practice; and I had an adapter plugged into my computer (1/8 to 1/4 instrument cable) so we could run through a PA. Here's my issue; since then, I haven't been able to use the normal speakers on my computer.

I'm only able to use anything when it's plugged into the headphone jack and now my computer doesn't even recognize that I even have built-in speakers :[

Here's my system info for those who can help me out:

MacBook Pro (4th Generation)
Mac OS X 10.5.5
Intel T9300 running @ 2.5 ghz
2048 MB of RAM

I'm not sure where to find my sound drivers and everything seeing as I'm pretty new to the Mac OS, this is my first personal Apple computer (which I really love BTW :D). If anyone could please help me out that would be awesome.

I think the speaker cutout switch is stuck in the open position. Look in through the port to see if a red light is showing.

Give the audio out port a good reaming and jiggle with a dummy 3.5 mm jack. Risky, but you can also try very fine emery paper on a 2.5 mm jack to clean the contacts inside the port. Just don't get the paper stuck inside there or you'll have to open up your MBP (which you may have to do anyway). Keep us posted.

Don't concern yourself with "drivers", Mac OS X seldom needs them.

Okay cool :D Thanks a bunch. If I still have more issues, I'll just revive this thread.

BTW - the red light was on, what does that mean exactly?

Some on MacBook Pro Apple discussions are using compressed air cleaner to turn the light off.
Best.

A toothpick doesn't sound particularly safe haha

I think I'll try compressed air

Well, you're not jabbing it in there. It just takes a little tickle.

I'll give it a whirl. I think my computer is just deciding to not agree with me because whenever I log into Windows all of the F buttons do their normal Windows functions. I can't change the volume or adjust the brightness of my computer which kind of bothers me.
