It sounds like you may have installed a version of Windows XP that is not compatible with Boot Camp. Only a MS boxed copy full install version of XP SP2 Home or Pro, or a system builder's full install version of XP SP2 Home or Pro will work.

You can not use a copy of XP Pro SP1, restore version, branded OEM version, or a recovery set.

Regards.

How do i tell, or is it definitely in need of a new XP disk?
Is there any way of updating it because i don't think i have the money to get a new one, if i am forced to get a new one how do i get rid of XP from the old partition?
Thank you for all your help.

Nope. You need a XP Install disc with at least SP2 already on it.
If you are unable to do this, then I suggest you give this article to a friend who can, or go to a computer shop and get a disc from them. Many shops will sell you a burnt copy of the XP install disc, for a small fee, so long as you show them your valid XP license.
