is there a way for all links in safari to open in a new tab and not a new window? or is there a way to merge that pop up window into the main window?

I have found two free third party applications that will allow you to exactly what you want (and a whole lot more). You can either download Onyx or SuperDocker. You could also download them both since each of them are useful applications in their own right. Onyx is a good maintenance program that can clean out some of the junk that accumulates on your hard drive and slows it down. SuperDocker allows you to customize the Dock with new skins and themes.

  • In Onyx, the setting you want is under "Parameters." Click on the Safari tab. Make sure that "Enable single window mode" is checked.
  • In SuperDocker, click on Safari in the sidebar and check "Open window in a new tab."

Check these settings in either program and you should be good to go.

Thanks. Safari should have that option built in
