bought the macbook yesterday, and messed around. Today I open it and the desktop display is blue. Yesterday it was the crazy purple image. When i went into display, the crazy purple was still selected, but it was not being displayed. What's the deal?

Can we have some more details, maybe a screenshot? I know you're a newbie but we need some detail to help you.

Just a thought...

Just a thought, but there is an option to rotate your background based on the group that you have selected. I don't have a mac in front of me, but check to see if you don't have that selected.

A screenshot would definitely be helpful, as your description is pretty vague and abstract.
But, I think you're maybe talking about different desktop backgrounds...?
