I hope this is in the right location, so my question is...to watch analog (while it still exists) or digital over the air tv with the eyetv hybrid, do you have to have a cable or antenna attached to the device? I am looking into this device for both transferring old video to my MBP and then burning to dvd and also (if possible) using it to watch TV when I am stuck at locations where I have some time to kill. I am using a 17" MBP, 2.16ghz, 2 gig ram.....will what I have described above work for watching tv? I have a portable HDTV antenna that I can connect to the coaxial connection, but would be nice to NOT have to carry it to the convention center or stadium or where ever if I don't have to... thanks all.

You need an external antenna for over the air signals. The Hybrid also can handle cable. You system is fine for all that you mention.

You definitely want the version 3 of the software because that is suppose to allow you to have presents for different locations. That is a big deal because having to retune for each location is a hassle.

I'm not sure what to say about carrying an antenna around. Find something small and light but stable. Also note that signals are a hit and miss issue. When digital degrades it can completely loose the signal. 2009 in the US will be interesting when they go only digital over the air.

thanks for the info...the antenna i have is roughly twice the size of an iphone so it will fit in my laptop bag, just didn't want to have to carry it around if I didn't have to. I will make sure i get version 3. Once again, thanks.
