I want to know what sort of market share Safari has gained, and whether people use it as their primary browser. Post your setup if you wish.

I have Safari, Chimera, and Mozilla all set as login items. I tend to do both of my surfing in Safari, but I do occasionally go back and forth to Chimera and Mozilla (especially for sites that require finer control over popups and image blocking and other scripting-related functions).

i think IE on Mac is dead. Safari (and keynote) is the beggining of the end of Microsoft for Mac :D

Does Apple have a million Jaguar users?
Or are they counting 'one milion total downloads of all Safari beta versions'.
If they were going by unique IPs, they might see some clearer numbers.
(But in the case of our organization, we're behind a NAT firewall so our numbers would look a bit odd: at least four downloads for five supported machines; a couple of users have downloaded the Beta twice, to get different versions.)
So I think Apple's numbers could be interpreted a number of ways...

I agree with you gatorparrots. The number should be about half. Since I believe that most have downloaded the update also.

Yes, it did beat iTunes.

But, in all fairness, I take the number 1million not as a strict, accurate figure, but as a way to compare safari downloads to other browsers. If there were no other browsers, then there would be nothing amazing about 1 million downloads in such a short period of time. Its only stated to say that 'hey, look at me! I'm setting records here!'

1 million downloads gives the message: 'hey, I'm the bomb!', but I'm sure that all other download stats on other sites will use similar systems, and therefore the "safari tops 1mill downloads" headline is no different from any other "This program has this many downloads" news article.
