Using subtitles with Quicktime

Your Mac's Specs
13" MBP - 2.7 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM.
I have Quicktime 7.5 and the latest Perian; however, nothing's changed in Quicktime. I go to View > Subtitles > and it's a greyed-out 'Off.' The subtitles are supposed to play when available, accoring to QT preferences. So, why aren't they working?
