I have a Comcast DVR from Motorola. It has 2 firewire ports in the back, but not one like in a camera, it is exactly like the one in the side of the computer. I have a double sided firewire cable, how can get the video from my DVR, to my computer, is this possible? Do i need Software? Please help! Thank you in advanced. Sorry I did not have more information, It is the faster firewire port, i think 600 but not sure.

My understanding is that the port on the computer is six pin wheras the port on a camera is four pin. The cable you are speaking of I believe is a six pin to six pin. The cable you connect your camera to the computer is a four pin to a six pin.

Have you connected the DVR to your computer to see what the computer sees.

I am trying to capture the video from the DVR to my comptuer, It is a 6 pin - 6pin conncetion and I have already tried iMovie, and Final Cut Pro but the computer does not reconize that it is pluged into the DVR, So what is it that can be done to fix this, if it can be fixed? The firewire ports that are there are actually there for HD TV's so wasn't sure if it can go into the computer. Thank you for you help so far.

hook up the camera, turn it on, if imovie doesnt auto recognise it, in imovie, look for this switch:
imovie.jpg

flip it to the little camera, then it should let you, its on the left in the screen shot, the
play buttons are just to show you the area.

I don't think DVR's output through firewire. Those ports are just there for you to record from your camera to the DVR

ok, So i read in te instructions on the DVR (not camera) they are deffinatlly output ports for firewire, the thing is they are for TV, I would of thought that you would get a signal out of there and the computer would pick it up as a incoming video signal and i would beable to capture it as if it was a camera. I still can't fingure it out, but thanks for trying to help so far.
