I went in to Future Shop today and one of the guys there sold me a CAT5e Crossover cable, saying that it was what I needed to transfer files from one Macbook to another. I'm a bit skeptical, so I thought I'd ask here before I open the product if it is indeed the right cable. If not, please tell me exactly what I need instead. Thank you

If you want to do it over ethernet that cable should work. Plug it into both computers and it should create a mini network that you can drag files across. If you want to be able to access the other macbook as if it wasn't on a network but an external hard drive, you can do that as well through a firewire and booting one of the computers into target disk mode.
