Microsoft Dropping Seinfeld, Directly Targeting 'Get a Mac' Ads

Microsoft currently own the market, all they simply need to say is, "Windows Vista is the most advanced, stable, and accessible operating system available to anyone in personal computing or for business application."

If it's true, they will continue to dominate. If not, people will keep sticking/downgrading to Windows XP or switch to an alternative.

It is over, and it is going to get even weirder:

Microsoft's new ads: Seinfeld and Gates out, Hodgman lookalike in
According to a report from in the New York Times, the next phase of Microsoft's latest ad campaign is set to begin -- sans Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. Apparently, the new ads do away with the unusual (and somewhat ill-received) banter and "real life" experiences of the two celebrities, and trade them for an earnest embrace of... Apple's "PC" character.

I was starting to like the new Microsoft ads. Even though they didn't advertise their product, I thought they were funny. Also, at the end of each of the Microsoft ads, Bill Gates gave a "signal" that he was working on something new. I think they were planning on releasing a new OS at the end of the campaign.

In no way am I supporting Microsoft.

If Microsoft really wanted to copy Apple, they'd come up with some new ideas for advertising. Not just copy someone elses idea. Cause Apple have had original ideas for years. But that's what I like about Apple. Just as the competition come up with something up equal their efforts, they go and make something even better. So in effect always one step ahead.

Either way Microsoft OS is absoltely terrible. My roommate had a brand new Dell NoteBook with vista and the second day he was using it he was already experiencing problems with how slow it was and IE windows popping up all over the place. He has all the security stuff you can get on his computer and he still gets viruses. I've had my mac for 9 months and have not had one problem with anything about it. I'll never go back to windows other than to maybe play some computer games here and there but other than that there is no point. Microsoft is officially #2 and it looks like they will not be #1 for awhile.

Pay attention to the last screen, it says,"A life with out walls", or something like that.

And I was Reading through the comments on MacRumors and came across this:

How can Windows be a life without walls? If there's no wall, how can there be windows? Are they in the ceiling? Is there a floor window?

That was probably the best response I have heard in a long time.

I emailed that to Bill Gates, at [email protected], we'll see what he says.(if anything)

That quote made me giggle like a young girl, think the new ad is terrible though.

These are definitely better than the Seinfeld ones, only because they actually serve a purpose :p

I like it. Much better than than the seinfeld ads.

But, have the Apple ads really turned PC users into a stereotype to anyone other than Mac fanatics though?

Also I think Microsoft has kind of missed the point, 'PC' and 'Mac' aren't meant to be representative of the users but are the anthropomorphised representations of the respective systems and operating systems.

Your roommate must not have any idea what he is doing then. My business laptop has Vista on it and I've experienced nothing of the sort.

My friend said something like that. She's like "how can you have windows without walls, its impossible". I guess Microsoft didnt think about the tagline before they put it on the ads

Oh well, it still beats the lies and half truths of the Apple Commercials. Really, Windows, and especially Vista is a good operating system, and it irked me that while having a good product in and of itself, Apple felt the need to spread FUD about MS and especially Vista.

I use 3 operating systems. I own a Macbook Pro with XP for Office and compatibility with the Windows world as well as a home built PC with Vista 64 bit. To say that one is better than the other is well, pretty narrow minded. Each serves a good purpose I think. I use Vista as my gaming machine and never had an issue outside of finding drivers on occasion for older hardware. This is a problem Macs would have as well if they were to try to be compatible with so many pieces of hardware.

I love my Macbook Pro, I love the OSX interface, and am beginning to delve more into content creation. It is clean, easy to use, and intuitive in many ways. Still, its Office Suite is lacking even with Office 2008 for Mac, and I wish there was more competition, alternative programs, playing DVD's and using legally owned DVD's under different regions (I am am American and cannot play my AmericanDVD's on my German bought Macbook Pro. There should be some program to work around this without breaking copyright law when I own the dang thing).

To me, MS and Apple serve good purposes for what they are intended, and I am glad I am in a position to use both of them. That's my two cents.

BTW, I find the MS commercials to be quite witty. Apple can no longer use the PC versus Mac without alienating future customers. A smart move by MS I think. They simply took the moniker given to them by Apple and ran with it...

It's not MS's way of business by coming up with something decent that is "original"....

Honestly, I respect Bill Gates and admire the work of Microsoft. I've always been a Microsoft Windows user, just a one-month Macintosh user. I can not say I dislike the Macintosh OS, but I can say that Microsoft Windows XP and Vista are easier, less complicated, as well as excellent for both home and business users. Apple beat Microsoft by creating their fantastic iPods and iPhones, which are used by almost every American and foreigner citizen. I myself bought an Apple iPhone Mini as soon as it came out, I'm not an iPod fan but I can say that the iPhone is great. About the ads, I'm not much of a fan, like seriously, ads are sometimes dumb, and pointless. As for recruiting Jerry Seinfeld to appear in Microsoft ads with Bill Gates, I could say that that was just a waste of $10 million United States Dollars given to the fellow actor. :)

i think the new "i'm a PC" ads are rediculous.

windows pcs account for what, about 90 percent of the market? of course the people that use 90% of the computers on the planet are from a multitude of different lifestyles, backgrounds, ethnicities, etc.

but you know what they say about car ads - it's not so much about new customers as making people feel good about their purchases and giving brand identity. this is basically the same thing - though the identity they seem to be trying to mold is that of no identity whatsoever.
and of course they missed a lot of "types" - like the reclusive WoW'er, the porn fanatic, the 4chan types, etc.

Also I think Microsoft has kind of missed the point, 'PC' and 'Mac' aren't meant to be representative of the users but are the anthropomorphised representations of the respective systems and operating systems.

agreed. completely.

I have no problem with bill gates really, aside from raping DR DOS but I wont start another rant about that.

The fact is that people hate success, and I guarantee if the tables were turned and 90% of people had macs there would be a niche group of Windoze PC users hating on Steve Jobs and OSX.

I can highly recommend that you have a read up on old Bill, 'Hard Drive' is an excellent place to start, really good read IMHO.

At the end of the day, my macs are my Bentley and Rolls Royce, they get me where I want to go and do the job quickly, comfortably and in style.
My PC's are my battered old pickup truck that I fill full of crap and crunch the gearbox on.

Because let's face it, there's no way I'm loading 2 sheep, 5 crates of beer, a catholic priest, a metric ton of oreos and a fresh sack of manure into my Bentley! ;)

Well the Advertising company hired to do the new MS ads used Macs abd photoshop it seems. But they edited and removed all their metadata pretty quickly once the cat was let out of the bag. But this increased all the filesizes of the pics and what not.

Only MS can remove something and have the end result bigger than they started. That's pretty funny.

The link says it all.

Sure only 8% give or take use Macs. But I bet a lot more have come into contact with work done on macs. Like movies, keynotes, webpages, games etc. Even MS and PC advertising it seems.
