Recent Items?

I was just curious on how the recent items works. I deleted some applications just by dragging all the folders and the application to the trash can. Deleted it from trash can, but I can still run it threw recent items list dose that mean I did not delete them properly? I am a new mac convert so it is just wild that I dont have to go searching the computer for hidden files to fully delete an app. or do i :O ?
