What happens when you no longer want the subscription based service? You loose all of your "GET" music you downloaded? Therefore, forcing you to buy it in the long run if you want to keep those songs you subscribed too. I think in the long run buying it and owning (whatever DRM rights are) it for .99 cents is the best bet for everyone. I think 'ol Steve-o is doing this to appease those greedy @ss record companies wanting to increase the "per-song" price. When the price of music (per-track) starts looking like gas prices, people will go back to pirating music, at least I will.

I would love a subscription music service.

Yeah the rumors are old but they are starting to come back again.

As strongly a Jobs has spoken against it in the past, I would say it's unlikely. But then again, Steve Jobs does not = Apple. If it'll increase shareholder value to offer it as an option, then why not do it?? At least the option should be given since there's obviously enough demand for it.

Steve Jobs does not = Apple.

But if Steve liked or disliked something, would anyone else at Apple have the guts to stand up to him? And voice their differing opinions.

I would agree. If you loose all the music when your subscription runs out, in my opinion it would be rather pointless.... However, if u did get to keep the music, i would totally sign up :D

True, i guess if you had a chance to renew ur subscription before u lost your music, it would be more feaseable (sp?)

Of course it's going to be a renewable subscription. How else would it be?

Subscription based music didn't work so well for Realplayer's Rhapsody if Apple is going to put a different spin on it to make it work then great.

I've considered Rhapsody, but I turned it down because it wasn't meshed into iTunes. I would think that if it was, then people like me, would sign up for it in a heart beat. I think just having the Apple logo on it would make it reason enough to try it out...

But we'll see, i for one would still love to see it out on the market in the near future.

I'd immediately get an iTunes unlimited account--under one condition. Rhapsody, BearShare, Napster and other subscription based music services all do one thing that appals me to the whole deal. Despite paying your subscription fee, only some of the songs are free under your monthly plan. Some songs still have a fee for downloading (usually only $1 or 50 cents), but if I'm already paying for all-you-can-eat service, the company is merely double dipping into my wallet!

So if iTunes did it right with one flat monthly fee PERIOD, then I'd swear my allegiance the first day.

I think that is an artist's decision. The artist doesn't have to allow free downloading and can opt to have purchase only.

No. I hardly buy from the iTunes store. So no, I will not pay for a subscription to get music that I may not even get.

And wouldn't you spend less if you just bought the music? I mean, if you buy songs or albums/videos/TV Shows/music videos/audiobooks daily or weekly, then yeah this would be an amazing service.

But for users like me, no that would just be spending worthless money.

It all depends on how much music you want. I mean when I buy music, I am pretty selective, I don't buy every song that I like, only the top couple ones. But if I had something like this, then I would get ALL the music that I liked, and could get my hands on. lol

I definitely enjoyed my napster to go subscription, which was this type of thing ($12/month, almost unlimited free downloads). What made me love it so much is that if I liked one song my an artist, I could, in theory, put their entire catalog on my mp3 player and listen to it all I wanted. If I liked it, I kept it and didn't spend any extra money. If I didn't like it I deleted it and hadn't lost any money.
