Ok, yes, I am stupid. I got a message from a well known friend on my facebook inbox and it said she had posted a video of a bunch of us and couldn't remember when it was taken. Like a goofy fish I took the bait and clicked and a codec started downloading. I looked it up and read that one such virus is seeking gamer info to sell online. I am just trying to find out if it is on my mac or not and how to get rid of it. Any help is so appreciated.
Yep, lesson learned
Thanks

I don't know

Not sure if I actually installed or if I just downloaded the codec. Good grief I sound stupid. Ok, so is there a difference? Yes, it showed up in my downloads, but I did not run or install or anything like that

Well, you can try ClamXav, run a virus scan. I think you'll be ok though, almost all of that crap they trick you into downloading is for Windows.

I second what skaheadpunk said. You're probably fine as long as you didn't double click it and install it and it is very likely that this virus is intended for Windows.

drag the file, into the trash, and empty your trash.

I am willing to bet the downlaod is called codesetup.exe or something similar.

Dont worry just trash it, it cannot load anyway, since its a windows worm

http://cyberinsecure.com/myspace-and-facebook-users-targeted-by-new-worms/

If a site tries to infect you with a mac worm, then as soon as it attempts to install the system would ask your permission, which would alert you that something is trying to install and you can use your common sense and refuse it permission

One of the main reasons why it is so difficulty to spread malware on OS X

Even if it downloads, you've got to click on it to run it and then click through a warning.

It's probably a Windows file that won't run anyway.

It's a Windows virus, it won't affect your mac
There isn't even such thing as a Mac virus, because Mac is protected on it's own
There have been some viruses for mac in the past, but those are patched by apple

Believe it or not you can actually run the online scan from TrendMicro on your mac. I assume it searches for pc virii... I'm assuming that it can do that because it's java or something but I was surprised...
