• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Final Cut Crashes and shuts down when I try to log and capture. Using 'easy setup", I use HDV1080i 60. So far, the only way I have been able to log and capture is by using the 'apple intermediate codec'. This is no good because of huge file sizes and it doesn't capture in real-time.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

My configuration:
Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
Camera Sony HDV-Z1U HDV1080I 60
MacBook Pro 2 GB ram
Intel Dual
Firewire 400 transfer

i had the same problem a while back, hdv and FCP don't agree, i found the answer previously, but i can't find the step by step guide online anymore, found here are a few things that may help:

if all else fails and you can't find a solution, the next best thing is to capture in imovie using full hd setting in the drop menu on the left, then move it over to FCP, but this eliminates logging your footage, which is a bummer.
