I have a MBP and my fiance has a Dell notebook. Am I able to setup a home network so that we can share files, access each other's computers, etc.?

This can indeed be done. It is not that difficult and it usually works fairly well. Try Googling "networking windows and mac os x" and you will have more than enough info to make it work. If you still have issues let us know! Good luck.

I always forget the ol' safety; "When in doubt, Google it." I am able to see the PC on my Mac's Shared locations but not able to see my Mac on her PC. I bet I just need to go in and look at the networking/privacy settings on the PC. Thanks, will get back w/ more questions and/or success stories!

Try going on the PC and from the 'Run' box type:

\\machine name of the Mac (or ip address of the Mac)\username on the Mac

Does that open up the shares on the Mac?

I am in the Windows firewall setting and am not finding anything that says "allow inbound SMB."

I can see the PC under the Mac's "Shared" section, but it won't let me sign in under my username and password. It only says "Signed in as: Guest" but not showing any files.

Make sure the Mac firewall also allows SMB.

I think they were talking about the firewall on the Mac.

Whoops - you beat me to it.

Do you have shares defined on the Windows machine?

Woops, forgot about my own thread! Umm, "shares defined on the Windows machine"... not sure. Where wold I go to find out? And BTW, I have AVG running on her PC if there's any extra setting I need to tweak in there.
