    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.

Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me with this issue. I was planning to get a PS3 for the singular use of being able to play avchd files off of dvd-r discs. How do I take an avchd EDITED movie off Final Cut Express 4 and burn it to a dvd-r so that i can watch it through the ps3 in full hd? I look forward to any responses thanks!

Well, before you go headlong into editing AVCHD footage to burn to a DVD, keep one thing in mind: if you *do* burn the full 1080i (which is what AVCHD is) to a *standard* DVD, you'll only get about 19 to 22 minutes of footage on each DVD. On the other hand, if you buy an external Blu-Ray burner (LG makes a good one that runs between $300 and $350) and Toast 9 Titanium ($99; $20 additional for the Blu-Ray plug in) then you'll be fine to edit your AVCHD footage, then burn to Blu-Ray and not have to worry about the space limitations of a standard DVD.

Cheers!
