what I do is I just let it go into sleep by itself. Especially if I'm listening to music on iTunes, I can't manually enter sleep mode because my music will stop and I have to wake it and turn it back on. But when I let my MacBook enter sleep mode by itself my music will still play, and I can still skip tracks and pause/play with the remote without it waking.
