New User disc fixing utility

20" Brushed aluminum type Imac :)
Im getting an error when im trying to run the disk utility I can verify and fix permissions no problem but when I hit verify disk to repair it I get this
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit and it wont finish....any ideas the mac has been quirky lately and im trying to smooth it out...

You can try using Onyx to do it. But it might use the same subset of tools, so I don't know if it will work or not.

Boot from your installation DVD and verify\repair disk from there.
