HELP! PLEASE! Can't install anything on Wallstreet

Hello,
I recently switched back to mac after lots of years. Bought a Wallstreet 300 mhz with os 9.2.2, used.
My problem: I downloaded updates from Apple; they wouldn't install.
I tried to install other programs; they wouldn't install.
Now I tried to reinstall OS 9.2.2; same problem.
I've looked in help on the computer; no information.
Same thing on support at Apple.com.
I don't know where to ask, so thought I'd try here.
I get lots of different error messages when I try to do this, one I remember from this morning was something like "Big System Morsels" can't be opened or something like that.
Not to brag, but I'm pretty darn good with Windows software and pc hardware, not ignorant.
I started out using Apple years ago and switched, but want to get away from the Microsoft monopoly, so came back.
Where is a good place to look for information on this problem?
Hope someone can help me out.
Thanks,
alejandra

We need a little more information, in order to help you. What updates are you trying to install and what are the error messages you are getting.

Hi rman,
I'm going to run the installs again and get the information. I'll be right back.

I just read another post about dragging application files to the applications folder. Is that what you are supposed to do to get them to work?
I'm accustomed to double clicking on the file and having the installation start, but, that's windows, not mac, and I don't know what the protocol is in mac.
Help?

Yeah, in Mac the applications folder is specifically for that use

Wait a second...

What OS do you have installed?
Which updates and applications are you trying to install?

If you're still running OS 9.2, there aren't any updates to install.

Oh? How do you do it then? I've just come back to Mac after a long time. I had a Lisa when they were brand new.
You drag the installation file to the application folder? Then what?
The update was a security update I found on apple.com.
"SecurityUpdate2004-10-27.gmp"
Since this computer had not been used since March, it seemed to be a good idea. And, yes, I have OS 9.2.2.
I'd appreciate any help from anyone in figuring this out. I hope I'm in the right place to ask. The switcher hangout sounded like the place to go.
I know to people who are used to working with an apple, these questions seem dumb, but I really tried to find out everywhere I could think of and got nowhere.

I don't think you will be able to install the security update you have on OS 9.

If you are on the internet, go to the Apple menu, then select software update from the Apple menu. You should get a window with all of the updaes that you need to install.

yea, that securiy update you mentioned is for os 10.3.5+, so you should use os 9 software update control panel.
