MacBook 1.83 GHz intel c2d, 2gb ram, xp and os x.6
what kind of difference is there between the 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm harddrive? is it noticeable? is it worth the extra cash?

There is a difference in performance. How substantial it is depends on your usage of the machine. To me, it's pretty insignificant.
