iSight compatibility

If I were to pick up an iSight for video chat, would the other party also have to have a Mac/iChat/iSight to take advantage of the AV features?

Thanks.

Not necessarily, but it would have the best outcome.

It's also possible to video chat with AIM users now, but it's spotty sometimes and doesn't always work. You can also use Yahoo IM and do video chat but the picture is horrid compared to using iChat.

Well here's my challenge, My girlfriend bought me a Logitech QickCam for my iBook so we can video conference. She picked up the model that's compatible w/ Yahoo! Messenger for OS X. Granted getting an iSight would look sweet, the video resolution is the same- checked @ Apple's site for iSight info. She's not a Mac user so I'm thinking this will suite our needs just fine. Am I correct in thinking so?

Thanks again.

Yes, it should work just fine. Regardless of which camera you use, Yahoo just looks bad anyway unfortunately. Yahoo doesn't allow great video...just a limitation of the service.
