Is there any way to play music or sound from an external speaker instead of out of the ear plugs. I know that it can be done the wrong way but is there any legal way of doing it.

the ipod app on the iphone plays out of the external speaker by default if no headphones are plugged in...

did you mean an iPod or iPhone? because if it's the iPhone, then eliehass is right. If it's an iPod you need to buy one.
