I want a new iPhone for the many features available but i'm just interested in a few things:
-should I pay for web access that will only be accessing 2g
-will I pay more for data plans even though i can only access 2g
-I believe 3g (or 4) will be in my area in a year or two...I can live
with what I've got now but can I pull up weather, sports scores, email,
and news headlines on 2g
-does ATT offer a less expensive rate in an area that only accesses 2g?

thanks for your help

Should you? Any reason why you shouldn't? If you have need of it at any speed, then yeah, you should. If your needs are highly dependent on the speed, then only you can decide that.

I've not seen any news indicating that people who live in a 3G-less area will be charged less for their data plan. In fact, I'm highly skeptical that they will since there wouldn't be anything stopping you from using 3G service if you happened to be visiting an area that has it. There also wouldn't be much incentive for you to update your address if you moved if, by doing so, your rates changed.

Of course you can.
