Can I remove the Macintosh HD icon from my desktop? If I can where can I access it, if needed?

Way... way too many specs to list.
Sure can, open up Finder preferences and remove it from the "show these items on the desktop" section under General.

You can then access it in any finder window.

wow I just tried that and it's gone. It's good to know I can remove it and have a nice clean desktop. Thanks:)
