Is there a way to set up time capsule to work like ".mac" or "mobile me?" Can I use my home network to "sync" everything instead of subscribing to the service? I don't need apple's storage, email, etc. I just want to sync my ibank and mail accounts on my iphone and macbook without carrying an extra cable everywhere...

I wouldn't think so. MobileMe is more of a way to sync all of your devices at once from anywhere. Time Capsule is a networked external HD, and works the same way as a router. The signal will only travel as far as it can.
