Alright, so, I have this vision. In this vision, I have two macs; a desktop, and a laptop. What I want is to be able to use the desktop as my "base of operations", if you will, and to have the laptop act as a portable version of the same User Profile. Obviously it won't have access to all of the files or all of the programs on the desktop, but certain applications (Mail, iCal, etc) and files would be able to be synchronized, either by USB or be being on the same network.

There must be a way to do this. Anyone able to help me out?

So you're saying you want the laptop to be another separate user for the desktop?

I think what I want is closer to having the same user live on both machines. Your suggestion could work if there is a way to sync up parts of different user's information.

Its about $100/year, but i think it is well worth it... especially if you plan on getting an iphone.

.Mac (MobileMe) is your best bet.
