Wont let me get into external hard drive

Hi there,

So i have a powerbook g4 and im trying to get music files off an external hard drive. i installed the cd that came with it but it wont let me get into it. how do i or can i ?

Does the disk utility read the drive? Check there first to make sure the pbook is even reading the drive.

Also, what kind of drive is it?

I know that the USB powered external drives require a double USB cord or an external power supply for the old Powerbook and ibooks (mostly) because the USB ports won't supply above a certain amount of power.

A friend of mine said that i need to ntf something my mac. i guess i can see the hard drive but cant take anything off of it? idk... im so new to using macs!

If the hard drive is formatted NTFS is might not let you see the partition, but I doubt that, did you check disk utility to see if its showing up?

You should be able to see it even though it's an NTFS drive.

As Avenger2SER said, check to make sure it's getting enough power.

i can see the drive, but how can i take anything off it ?

I don't mean to interupt but i'm having a similar problem. When i try to get info off of my PC's external i get a message saying somthing like I do not have permission to get into my files. Are they formatted differently?
