itunes purchases to new location?

macbook l Ipod nano 4gb l ipod classic 80 gb
I bought an 500 gb external hard drive and moved all of my itunes over there but when i buy stuff on itunes it puts it back in the old itunes folder. how do i change this?

iTunes > Prefs > Advanced > General > iTunes Music Folder Location.
