dumb question..but when you use this feature..your programs have to be opened right?

ie. space 1 have the web browser, space 2 have mail, space 3 have photshop...

but if you close one of those application listed...clicking back and forth from the spaces 1-4 then you would only have 3 spaces and 1 space open?

i can't explain it well

Spaces is set up in Expose in System Preferences and, you are absolutely right only works with running applications, that have not been minimized.

If say you had four spaces set up, then if you had Mail, Safari and iTunes in different spaces, you would still have four spaces, but you are only using three of them. Also, the best way to access Spaces is through the Dock icon.

I hope that helps you

If you switch to a space without an open application you will only see your desktop.
You can open an application on the blank space to start using it.
