im not connected to any wifi so airpot just keeps scanning...if i turn it off does it reduce the amount of power that my mac uses to help me save money or does it not matter at all?

does that mac just always use a certain amount of electricity all the time?

If it were a laptop it might save on battery drain, but not on AC current. I would turn off Airport anyway if you are not using it. I am pretty sure that is where your shares are coming from.

on most devices running wireless eats a fair bit of power -- the wireless is basically a radio frequency transmitter, and it needs power (more than a lot of devices). You'll really see the difference on an iPod Touch with and without the wifi engaged. If you're looking to maximize laptop battery life, turn off airport when you're not looking to connect.
