Viewing CPU Usage

I use iStat menus, which displays the info in the menu bar at the top. The same company makes an app and dashboard widgets too.

Open the terminal (go to spotlight and type in terminal, or find it in Applications/Utilies
Type in 'top" into the terminal, and this gives you a list. IMO, it gives a far more accurate reading than iStat, and is easier to take text from than Activity Monitor.

FWIW, I use the MenuMeters app. It can show you cpu, memory, network, harddrive, each selectable.
