Hi there,

New to macs so grateful for any assistance! I understand that it is impossible to change the start-up noise made by my new OS 10.5.3 Macbook, but I was wondering if, instead, it was possible to have a soundfile autoplay when I first sign in. I see that there is an auto-start option for programs ('Open at login') in the dock, but I can't seem to get it to do the same for audiofiles.

Any ideas?

You should be able to do it with Automator - create a program that plays the file you want, and then set the program to open at login.

My mac takes a picture of everyone who signs in... in case it's not me!

I created a custom workflow,
Dragged 'take video snapshot' to the workflow,
Checked the 'take picture automatically',
Added the 'current time' variable to the file name,
Saved it as an application, and added it to my login items.

The thing waterpolo posted is cool, but I'm not worried about invalid login attempts, just the ones that actually get in to my mac.

Thanks, but I think I'm a retard

Thanks for the help huys, but am a bit stuck. So, in automater I have set it to retreive, then play the sound file. The trouble is I can't work out how to get the workflow to start on login. Is there a seperate setting somewhere that I can't find to do this?

If you save it as an application somewhere, you can go to System Preferences> Accounts> Login Items and add it to the list.
