Interesting, yet over-the-top if you ask me. I've been to several Apple stores where I've downloaded 3rd-party apps. I never get "bugged" about it. It's mostly to get an idea of how that particular app will function on a newer Mac versus mine.

Some managers just like to throw their weight around in some power trip mission. Its as if its their god given right to push people around. They get off on it, its like a hunger; they have to show that their big n mighty....

Chimp I agree with you,Are you shopping at the same Apple Store I youst to shop at? LOL..... I will never step foot in the Apple store where I live again for that very reason. It's like walking into a best buy you have a bunch 18-20 year olds in there that know everything about nothing.

I live in Toronto, so I have 3 apple stores to choose from. I've never been to the Sherway one so i cant say anything about that. But I've been to both the Yorkdale and Eaton Centre ones. I do not like the Yorkdale one at all. They make false promises and they aren't all that helpful. But I love going to the Eaton Centre one! Its about twice as far from my house, but the staff are friendlier, know more and more importantly, they seem to bee the same people every visit!

It seems most every iPod touch I see in best buy or future shop or AARSP is:
in poor condition
jailbroken with a garish amount of apps on it
the home page is facebook.

I agree! The Yorkdale Apple Store sucks! They watch you like you're going to steal something, especially when they can tell you know more about everything in the store than they do.

If anything, the employees are annoying and just hassle you.

I live in Oshawa btw. :)

maybe it's an age or respect for property thing, but i just can't imagine going into ANY store and modifying the product to my desires, at least without first checking with the staff.

it seems like it would be similar to just jumping in a car at an auto dealership and just installing a new radio to see how it would sound in that car...

I agree with you Eric, but it's different with an electronic device which is set to reset every night IMO.

well, a stock radio can be reinstalled too. ;)

it's as much about respect for the property of others as it is about simple human respect for the time of the employees. of course, i'm one of those people who needs to find where a cd actually belongs if i don't want to buy it - i feel really guilty just putting it any place in the racks (this goes for pretty much anything else in a store too).

It's seems that if the Apple Stores have a SOP to reset the devices every night, then there is an expectation and general acceptance that people will fiddle with them in this way. If that's the case, I don't think the manager should have gotten so upset.

BTW, the title of this thread is a little inaccurate as the boys weren't actually banned from any stores.
