Macbook NO SOUND!

Please help me.
I don't have any sound coming out, f10 f11 f12 are all not functioning. and there is a "prohibited" sign when i press any of these bottoms.

Open System Preferences, click on Sound, and check to be sure you have not selected "mute".

i went there it and did what you guys said but didnt work. but it worked after i restarted.
