so itunes (on a macbook 10.5.2) is sloooow on my NTFS network while MediaMonkey does just fine on a way lower performance situation.

for 10.5.2 what is a good audio player: SongBird, Audion, COG and floola (mostly a ipod interface) that you guys have gotten to work in a large NTFS network, several servers, several hd's all NTFS.

primary usage: have the library scan the system(s) (normally takes several hours so good it is automatic as possible) and run the application from the library

There is no such thing as an "NTFS network." NTFS is a format for local disks, not networked volumes. I assume you are connecting using SMB?

I very much doubt that any media player on the Mac will give any better performance for a remote library than iTunes. SMB on the Mac is not optimized for that sort of thing.
