hi there.
i didn't really know which topic to put this under so i am trying this one.
i have an old Imac with OS 9.2 on it and i also have in my possession a copy of OS X 10.4 on an installation disk. every time i insert it into the machine it allows me access the disk and it allows me to use the install program. when the program starts up it says it needs to restart to be effective, but when it does, it gives the question mark. at this point it spits out the disk and i curse loudly. other times it will look as though as it is working then it delivers a message saying it could not be completed. anyone have any ideas what i should do?

You need to boot from the install disk... not sure how to do that with OS 9 though, maybe someone else could help you with that if you're not sure =P

Is the install disk grey coloured? Or does it have a large X on it.

If it is a grey disk its an install disk that is specific to the mac it came with (probably a G4 r G5) and will work on your G3

Also what is the spec of that G3 you have
