• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi all.

This is my first post, if it's in the wrong place please move. Thank you.

I am a new mac user. Literally a week old now. I have a MBP 2.5 GHZ standard config. I transfered all my music/video files from my old PC to the mac using a home network. Everything works great, except for one of my video files now has no sound except when played in VLC player. I found this out when trying to make a DVD using IDVD 08. The files properties are as follows:

Video: DIVx 6.0/AVI
Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo

Do I need a codec to play this? I had most codecs for my PC but no idea what I need for mac.

Also, trying to play this with QT produces the following result:

Additional software is required for QT to play this video file. It may be available from the QT site.

Any ideas? Thank you
