• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Can anyone help?

I am unable to download from my camcorder to my Mac. My Mac is running OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) and I have i.movie version 5.0.2.

I connect the camcorder to the Mac with a 1394 male to iLink 4pin 2M firewire connection bought from Micro Ambica. When I open i.movie it doesn't upload the films. Clicking on import doesn't do anything either.

I have loaded the canon camcorder software that came with the camcorder onto the Mac. I have also tried opening the camcorder software
image browser/movies/canon camcorder and get the message that 'no camera was found'.

However the camcorder itself is showing the icon for being connected to the computer.

I have tried resetting the camcorder and re-inputting the date and the time and I have checked that the setting for uploading is set for SP.

I bought this camcorder because I read it is compatible with Macs.

Thanks very much

Turn on the computer.
Hook up the camera.
Turn on to VCR/Computer mode I think. (This choice is critical)
Click the Apple icon on the upper left in the menu bar.
Click 'About this Mac'.
Click 'More Info...'
If needed, open the Hardware section by clicking on the diamond shape to the left of the Hardware title.
Click on the Firewire choice.
Your camera should be listed if the computer is seeing it.

If it is not listed, that is your first hurdle to fix.

If it is listed let us know what the listing says.

What camcorder is it?

If it's an AVCHD camcorder, that's your problem right there. Tell us the model number.
