    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

I have a bunch of old 8mm tapes and eventually want the footage on an external hard drive that I will stream to a apple tv,mac mini or ps3, not sure yet.

These are analog and I have some options:

1)find a digital8 and import directly to imovie
2)burn to stand alone dvd recorder then rip to mp4

If the original footage is analog is there a point in saving the footage once my mac as .dv? this seems to take up alot of space.

I burned a dvd from the 8mm tape on a stand alone burner and then compare this footage to footage from my now mini dv camcorder, honestly I cannot tell a difference, also when I compare a mp4 file to dv file I do not see a difference.

Also what format is best for viewing on app tv or a mac mini connected to a hdtv, mp4 right?
