• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

video transfer to iMac

I have many video 8 tapes (analogue) which I would like to transfer to iMovie. I have an old analogue camera and another Sony video 8 EV- S700UB player but connectivity seems to be a problem.

I had asked someone to transfer the tape to a DVD and this was done in MPEG format. This does not work on my iMac (OS10.4.11) but does open up on Windows Media Player with Vista on a PC. Media player on Mac won't work though.

What I would like to do is get all the tape transferred either directly or via a DVD format. Then I would like to edit and make copy DVD's to give to other family members.

Is this possible and do I need any kit/software to achieve success?
