I'm an MBA student with eight years of experience in marketing. How do I get a job at Apple? Does it come down to "who you know" or does applying actually work?

90% of the time when you apply via email it goes to a screening person who looks at your resume for about 10 seconds to see if they can find any keywords that interest them. If not, then off to the trash you go.

I've seen the listings on Apple's site, but they mainly post openings for the HQ in Cupertino or at local Applestore locations. I am interested in working for corporate, but not Cupertino, because I don't want to relocate from L.A.. Where can I find listings in my area?

Best bet is going through their site. Sounds like you're expecting a position to come to you. Look through the link DB provided for you. It lets you search by area code somewhere on one of those pages.

Way... way too many specs to list.

Does Apple have any LA sites?
