removing malware

Just been informed by a company calling itself Malware that my computer is infected and I now need to purchase their software to remove it.
Anyone come across this and is there a way to remove it without paying.
I was under the impression that Macs were immune to this.

chances are that their software fix is a windows program that is a Trojan Horse for a windows PC

Unless your Browser is going to dodgy sites without your knowledge - you have no malware

It's a scam. Even if you take your browser to "dodgy" sites, there is no Malware for the Mac.

Baggss and louishen are totally right. It's a Scam. Even if it were a Windows system it would be a scam. I get those so called SCANS all the time in both OSX and Windows.

It came as a popup and would not let me delete it. Only option was to allow scan. Since then computer is irritatingly slow and cannot play Call of Duty game due to jerky mouse movement.
Is there a free scanner and removal application that may sort it out.

Download onyx, you do not have malware... there is NO malware created for the Mac... NONE, this is a scam for windows. Just download Onyx and try running some of the maintenance scripts.

Sounds like a coincidence or psychological to me!

- do not believe anything telling you you have 'malware' or are 'infected'. Even on Windows machines they are a complete scam and you really must not believe them or click on them.

Ages ago now that first happened to me and I will have to admit, I was scared as at the time I had never seen anything like that pop up before, but soon found it was a scam and now just laugh at them.

Seriously, it is a total and complete scam. Find a good ad blocker and popup suppressor.
