Formating USB HDD, Whaqt format?

Just a quick question,

Im formating my 500GB USB Hard drive, Which is the best format to use? It will only be used with my mac.

Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Mac OSX extended
"" "" case sensitive, journaled
"" "" Case sensitive
MS-DOS (FAT)

All i will be using it is for backing up data, not using time machine.

oops, i just did tMac OS Extended, the not journaled one.

What is the difference?
